Amy's Gran Fondo October 2025
The Surfcoast Parish Cycling Team was represented again at one of the premier cycling events on the calendar – Amy’s Gran Fondo held in Lorne on Sunday 19 October. This year, it was held in conjunction with world cycling’s Gran Fondo championships, with 1000 qualifying riders from around the world starting a couple of hours ahead of 2000 riders in the recreational category.

The Surfcoast Parish Cycling Team label was pinned to the back of Richard Kelly’s jersey and traversed the 122km course in 5 hours and 40 minutes (including a total of 20 mins rest at a couple of food stops), averaging 23 km/h.
It was a fabulous day, with good weather, dry roads and manageable wind conditions. We hope to see more parishioners and associates getting involved in a variety of ways supporting future rides.
On the afternoon before the race, Sharon and Richard joined the official Memorial Service held by the Amy’s Foundation on Lorne Beach for riders killed on our roads, and at 5 pm we hosted a Blessing of The Bikes at All Saints, on behalf of all participants.
From a small beginning, we hope to grow our presence along the coast, from Geelong to Lorne, among the cycling community, in the years ahead.
